On the Brink of Success
One of the most promising young forwards the Flyers organization has come to know is Bobby Brink. He had a stellar training camp, and what most consider a successful preseason. Playing away against Boston seemed to be an intimidating task for most Flyers fans, but not for Brink. He blissfully passed the puck to Ryan Poehling, which ended up in the back of Boston’s net. This just happened to be a power play goal, which is another area the Flyers have been severely lacking in. Brink then went on to score a goal of his own in the third period to guarantee a trip to overtime. With no goal in overtime, it then went to a shootout. Brink’s goal was the game winner that led the Flyers to a 4-3 shootout victory in Boston. Winning in overtime was a huge struggle for the Flyers last season. They had 2-3 overtime and shootout wins out of about 25 contests going to overtime. It seems Brink will be the key to getting them some of those overtime wins in the future. Just analyzing his play outside of the Boston series, he seems to always be at the right place at the right time.
The Flyers started preseason off a little rocky, but with Brink’s help, they were able to come out with some wins heading off to the regular season. Unfortunately, he has been sent down to the AHL for the time being. Maybe John Tortorella wants him to develop a little bit more before he stays on the Flyers permanently, but I believe they are about to be on the brink of success.
