New York Islanders Win in Overtime

As of recent, the New York Islanders have been struggling to win games and get their spark back. Ever since Patrick Roy was hired as the new head coach, many people were expecting a quick turnaround on the season, however, the Islanders have dug themselves into a deeper hole. They currently sit at 7th place in their division right behind the Washington Capitals and the New Jersey Devils. It appears their playoff hopes are dwindling, but their recent win against the Dallas Stars may be an opportunity for a final push.

On Monday, Feb. 26, the Islanders beat the Dallas Stars 3-2 in overtime. Ryan Pulock would strike first for the Islanders as he had a goal and an assist on the night. Kyle MacLean would also score for the Islanders as well.

The Islanders would enter overtime for the 21st time this season. Within the extra minutes of the game, Bo Horvat took a pass from Mathew Barzal and scored from the slot moving toward the net on one knee. This became a full circle moment considering Horvat won for them in their previous game against Dallas 3-2 at home when Roy made his coaching debut.

“We know every game matters for the rest of the season,” Horvat said. “That’s a big two points today.”
