Since the end of October, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner has been one of, if not the hottest player in the NHL. The 25-year-old has been on an absolute tear with a point streak of 23 games that dates back to October 27th. This historic streak broke a team record and helped get Toronto up to the second place spot in the Atlantic Division.

Marner and the Maple Leafs traveled to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers on Thursday night. The Rangers won the game 3-1 to win their fifth straight game. The loss was a double heartbreak for Toronto as it was their first regulation loss in 16 games and Marner did not register a point, bringing his point streak to an end.

Over his last 23 games, Mitch Marner scored 11 goals and 21 assists for a total of 32 points. So far this season he has put up 12 goals and 25 assists for a total of 37 points in 31 games. He is tied for ninth in the NHL in assists and tied for tenth in the NHL for overall points.

Marner’s streak broke the Maple Leafs’ record for longest point streak. It was previously 18 games and was held by both Darryl Sittler and Eddie Olczyk. It was the third-longest streak by an active NHL player behind Sidney Crosby, 25 games in the 2010-2011 season, and Patrick Kane, 26 games in the 2014-2015 season.

This streak helped Toronto to a current record of 19-6-6. That record is good enough for second in the Atlantic Division standings, just four points behind the Boston Bruins. Dating back to November 11th, Toronto had not lost in regulation in a 15-game run, with a record of 12-0-3 during that time. They fell just one game short of tying the team record of consecutive games with a point at 16.

Mitch Marner is looking to get back on the scoresheet as the Maple Leafs travel to Washington to take on the Capitals this Saturday night.
