During Saturday night’s game on December 3, 2022, Mitch Marner broke the Toronto points streak record at 19 games, scoring short-handed and power-play goals. The Toronto Maple Leafs lost in overtime 4-3 against the Tampa Bay Lighting.

The Marner scored a short-handed goal early in the second period against the Lightning to reach his milestone and give Toronto a 1-0 lead. The right winger broke the Maple Leafs’ record set by Darryl Sittler in 1977-78 and matched by Eddie Olczyk in 1989-90. The NHL record is 51 games, set by Wayne Gretzky (1983-84).

During the second period, Tamp Bay’s Vladislav Namestnikov scored his first goal of the season.

Marner later scored a power-play goal in the third period, tying the game at three with 8:05 left in the third period.

In the opening four minutes of the third period, Tampa Bay had taken a 3-2 on power-play goals by Nikita Kucherov and Ross Colton. Kucherov's goal came after Marner was sent off for tripping at 0:04.

With 4:04 left in the third, Toronto's John Tavares had a goal disallowed after a review determined he kicked the puck into the net. Alex Killorn scored from the right circle 0:33 into overtime. Anthony Cirelli passed the puck to Killorn for the winner.
