Lindy Ruff Fired
The New Jersey Devils just fired their head coach Lindy Ruff. The Devils are sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 30-27-4 with a current losing streak of two.
Devils General Manager had a few words on the situation:
βI hold our entire organization to the highest levels of accountability to focus on being a competitive team that expects to be a perennial playoff contender,β Fitzgerald said. βUnfortunately, we are not currently at that level, and I needed to make this decision.β
βThis was an extremely difficult conversation to have with Lindy based on the relationship that he and I have,β said Fitzgerald. βHe was the right coach to develop our young players on the ice, and above all else, he is a tremendous person.β
Ruff has been the Devils head coach since the start of the 2020-2021 hockey season. Last season, he led the Devils to their first playoff appearance since 2018, though they were eliminated in the first round.
The Devils had just recently extended Lindy Ruff in 2023 but have now decided to part ways.
Now, with 64 points in 61 games, the Devils are eight points back of the final wild-card spot in the East. Hopefully with this new change of coaching staff the Devils will get their hot streak back and clinch the wildcard spot.
