Tampa Bay Lightning, Arizona Coyotes, and Carolina Hurricanes Unveil New Jerseys

Alternate or Throwback jerseys are one of the most fun traditions in sports, especially in the NHL. In the recent past, many teams have released creative jersey designs that usually are attracted to a charitable cause or program of some kind. In the last couple of weeks, several teams have released alternate or throwback jerseys that have excited NHL fans, including the Tampa Bay Lightning, Arizona Coyotes, and Carolina Hurricanes.

Carolina Hurricanes Rose Jersey

On Feb. 5, The Carolina Hurricanes released their “Rose” jersey in order to celebrate their Black Excellence Campaign. The jersey features striking red and black colors, thorns on the numbers on the back of the jerseys, and a rose decal in the front of the jersey. The jersey was designed by North Carolina-born artist and designer Mike Jones. Jones said that he was heavily inspired by his favorite musical artist Tupac Shakur and specifically the symbolism behind a “rose from concrete”.

Arizona Coyotes Forever Ever Black Excellence Jersey

On Feb. 15, the Arizona Coyotes revealed their collaboration with the clothing brand Forever Ever. Similarly to Hurricanes Rose Jerseys, The Coyotes and Forever Ever collaboration Jerseys are a celebration of the Coyotes Black Excellence Campaign. Similarly to Carolina’s new jerseys, the Coyotes new jerseys feature a predominantly black color scheme. The jersey also features a new, yet slightly gothic, style with the slogan “Yotes Forever” displayed on the front.  This look showcases Forever Ever creator Deon Baker Jr.’s signature style which blends vintage looks with a fresh and modern touch.

Tampa Bay Lightning Legacy Third Jersey

On Feb. 15, the Tampa Bay Lightning released their Legacy Third Jersey. This jersey is a throwback jersey specifically created to commemorate the past successes of the Lightning. Like all the other jerseys on this list, the Lightning opted for a dominantly black color scheme. Some notable features of the jersey are the three victory stripes on the sleeves, paying homage to the Lightning’s original 1992-93 jerseys. Lightning Chief Venue Officer Kevin Preast commented on the jerseys by saying “We worked hard to develop a jersey that represents the fans and our brand while celebrating our franchise’s history and growth within the NHL.”.
