Kaapo Kakko On the Way Out?
The NHL deadline is March 8th and is approaching fast. The New York Rangers had a major loss by losing Filip Chytil and are now looking to create more cap space to find a replacement. In a recent segment of “Inside Trading”, Darren Dreger revealed that Chris Drury, the Rangers general manager, is entertaining calls for the forward Kaapo Kakko. He is hoping that the cap space that would open up would call for a big more for the Rangers.
Kakko recently returned after missing 21 games due to a recent injury and put up a great performance. The team has struggled to find a third piece to click with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. In the end parting ways with Kakko could either go really well or not so well. Something else that is also in the mix is Kakko’s restricted free agent status coming up at the end of the season. Ultimately, he may want a salary increase and the Rangers may not want to meet those demands.
As the trade deadline is a little over a month away the Rangers have some time to decide. Rangers fans are waiting anxiously for Drury’s decision on how to go about this. There is a lot of things looming on this Rangers team and hopefully everything starts to fall into place very soon.
