Game 3 rangers lightning recap

With the New York Rangers being up 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Tampa Bay Lightning look to bounce back at home and secure game 3 Sunday night to prevent them from being down 3-0. Having the two best goalies in the East in Igor Shesterkin and Andrei Vasilevskiy, this will very much be a close series.

It was a close battle in the first period, each team fighting hard, going scoreless by the end of the period. The Lightning had 15 shots on the goal while the Rangers had 12 shots on goal throughout the period.

The second period is when the scoring happened. The Rangers stroke first scoring two goals in two minutes, one at 7:37 following that at 9:44 scored by Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider, both being on the power play. The Lightning stroke right back with a goal of their own a minute later at 10:50 scored by Nikita Kucherov on the power play as well. By the end of the second period, the Rangers had another 12 shots on goal while the Lightning had 18 shots on goal. It was still anyones games by the end of two periods of action.

The third period came rolling around and the Lightning showed up big time. Steven Stamkos ties up the game a minute into the action on the man advantage. Fighting all the way to the end of the period when Ondrej Palat scores late in the period at 19:18 to give Tampa the edge on the game. The Rangers try and pull their goalie with seconds remaining in the period but had no luck. The Lightning stuck the rangers to only 6 shot on goal by the end of the period while the Lightning had 19 shots on goal to show for it. That shows how much more dominate and aggressive the Lightning were over the Rangers to prove to their fans at home that they weren’t going down without a fight. The Lightning secured the win at home while still being down 2 games to 1 in the series.

All the goals were scored on the power-play except for the game winning goal. The rangers went 2/5 on the power-play and the Lighting went 2/4 on their man advantage opportunities. By the end of the game, the Rangers totaled 30 shots on goal while the Lightning had 52 shots on goal. They were the more dominate team in the third period despite being down 2-0 to start the game and the series. There was no giving up in the back to back Stanley Cup winners. They look to tie the series up at home during game 4 of the series Tuesday night. The three stars of the game were Steven Stamkos with the game tying goal, Andrei Vasileveskiy with 28 saves and the first star being Ondrej Palat with the game winning goal. I am looking forward to watching the Lightning hopefully tying up the series at home against the Rangers. The Lightning overall are the better team and can easily beat the Rangers in the next two games to send them to the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals possibly against the Colorado Avalanche.
