Chicago Blackhawks get First Win Since Connor Bedard’s Return
CHICAGO—All eyes are back on the Chicago Blackhawks as rookie Centre Connor Bedard scores his first goal since returning from injury.
Bedard first returned in a 4-1 loss against C Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in an event where Bedard got his first point and assist since returning from a fractured jaw. This injury kept him out for over a month, including him not being able to fully participate in the NHL All Star Game.
In a matchup earlier against the Ottowa Senators, Bedard scored his first goal with an amazing transition play, completely passing by opposing defenders and scoring off of a backhand pass from C Philipp Kurashev. Bedard also picked up an assist in the 3-2 victory against the Senators. He would’ve had two goals if not for a successful offsides challenge from the Senators.
The Blackhawks hope to get another win on Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes on the road. A win there would be the first time they’ve had a two game winning streak since Dec. 9 when the Blackhawks defeated the Anaheim Ducks and the St. Louis Blues in a three day span. The Blackhawks current record is 15-37-3 and pretty much have last place in the Central Division locked down. However, the rest of the season is about to be a thriller as Bedard, despite the extended break, still leads the race for the Calder Trophy according to DraftKings and FanDuel with -260 and -250 odds respectively from each sportsbook.
