Capitals’ Nicolas Aube-Kubel Suspended

During Friday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals’ forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel's head checked defenseman of the Tampa Bay Lightning Cal Foote.

The penalty for a three-game suspension was announced on November 12, 2022, as Aube-Kubel will also forfeit $16,216.23 from his average annual salary.

While officials were reviewing the head check, Tampa Bay’s Patrick Maroon dropped the gloves with Capitals’ Garnet Hathaway during the stoppage.

Other players got involved in the fight before Maroon and Hathaway were separated.

Due to the fight that broke out during the second period, Hathaway got a five-minute penalty for the fight, whereas Maroon got another ten minutes for misconduct.

The next big fight during Friday night’s game was during the third period against the Lightning’s Corey Perry, who was fighting Caps’ Anthony Mantha. Others like the Lightning’s Vladislav Namestnkov and Ross Colton were fighting Caps’ Gustafsson and Nic Dowd.

The suspension takes Aube-Kubel out of tonight’s return game between the teams at Tampa Bay. He also will miss games at Florida and St. Louis.
