Bruins Make Unfortunate Return From All-Star Break

Last week was not the best return the Boston Bruins have made coming off the All-Star break. Only winning one game, the Bruins went 1-2 this week.

In the Bruins’ first game of the week against the Calgary Flames, the Bruins had a slow start, allowing two goals early in the first period. The Flames’ Andrei Kuzmenko scored his first goal in his debut with his new team, and Connor Zary had the other goal to round out the first period.

After an uneventful second period, the Bruins respond with Pavel Zacha scoring early in the third period, marking their only goal of the game. Flames’ Jonathan Huberdeau and Noah Hanifin score later in the third, wrapping the game up 4-1 Calgary.

After their disappointing loss, the Bruins turned it around in their Thursday game against the Vancouver Canucks. Looking like an entirely different team from Tuesday, they started off strong with two first period goals by Bruins Captain, Brad Marchand.

The Bruins returned from the first intermission with vigor and passion, scoring two goals within the first minute. Morgan Geekie and Pavel Zacha were credited with the two goals, extending their lead to 4-0. The third period saw no new goals. The Bruins went home with the two points and Linus Ullmark with his 7th career shutout.

Their fortune would not last long as they faced the Washington Capitals on Saturday. Bruins Goaltender Jeremy Swayman saw 15 shots in the first period, but did not let any by him, ending a scoreless first period. Captials’ T.J. Oshie scored the games first goal early in the second period to start the Bruins’ downward spiral. After an ugly second period performance by Boston, the team was booed off the ice by fans at the end of the period. Washington’s Dylan Strome and Alex Ovechkin scored in the third and final period to round out the game, 3-0 Captials.

The Bruins have another tough stretch of home games this coming week, playing Tampa Bay on Tuesday, Seattle on Thursday and Los Angeles on Saturday to round out the week.
