Bruins Make It Through Another Tough Week
If you are a fan of Boston Bruins games going into overtime, last week was the week for you. The previous week saw the Bruins going into overtime on all four of their games.
Their first game this week was against the number one team in the Central Division, the Dallas Stars. The first period saw goals from Boston’s Jesper Boqvist, and Dallas’ Wyatt Johnston late in the period to finish off the first at 1-1. The second period had Dallas’ Ryan Suter score early in the second period. 30 seconds after Suter’s goal, AHL call up Justin Brazeau scored his first ever NHL career goal in his debut game with the Bruins, tying up the second period. Esa Lindell had Dallas’ final regulation goal, and David Pastranak had Boston’s final Regulation goal, wrapping up the third period. After a scoreless overtime, the game went through nine rounds of shoot-out before Boston’s Charlie McAvoy scored the deciding goal.
Before the game, Brazeau was signed to a 2-way, 2 year contract with the Bruins.
Their second game of the week was against another top team, the Edmonton Oilers who were coming off a big win against the Arizona Coyotes. The first period saw Bruins’ Morgan Geekie score early in the period, and Oilers’ Warren Foegele scoring later to wrap up the period. The second period saw plenty of excitement, with Bruins scoring 3 unanswered goals from Captain Brad Marchand, and forwards Trent Frederic and Jake Debrusk. Oilers’ Foegele scored his second goal of the game as well to finish the period, making it 4-2 Boston. The third period was also an eventful one, where Oilers’ Mattias Janmark and Corey Perry scored early in the period. Bruins’ David Pastranak scored once again to give Boston the lead again late in the third, but Oilers’ Zach Hyman scored the tying goal to bring the game into extra minutes. Boston’s Charlie McAvoy once again had another overtime goal to secure the win.
The B’s third game of the week came against the Calgary Flames. Late in the first period, Calgary’s Oliver Kylington, scored the game opener, and Boston’s Charlie Coyle responded with a goal of his own. With only seconds left in the first period, Calgary strikes again with Martin Pospisil scoring to finish off the period. Calgary held the lead at 2-1. After an uneventful second period, Coyle scores once again to tie up the game, bringing the game to overtime. With just over a minute left, Calgary’s Nazem Kadri scores on Boston’s Linus Ullmark, winning the game for the Flames.
In their final game of the week against the Vancouver Canucks, the Bruins took an early second period lead with both Jesper Boqvist and Danton Heinen scoring.
