The Carolina Hurricanes Continue to Cause Chaos in the East

Three shots. Three goals.

That was the stat-line of Carolina Hurricanes forward, Martin Necas, on Thursday night’s 5-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche. While dominating the entire 60 minutes of the game, the Hurricanes looked like, at the moment, that they might make a case for the best team in the NHL.

While Necas did score a hat trick in the very first period for Carolina in their last game, the scariest part would be that he’s not even one of their best players. Guys like Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Jaccob Slavin, are the leaders of this very impressive team. Having this much talent on your roster, would mean that the wins come on their own; that’s exactly what’s happening here. With a record of 7-3, in their last 10 games, the Hurricanes are nothing short of the hottest team in hockey right now. It looks as though head coach, Rod Brind’Amour, is getting the very most out of his current roster.

As he has a lot of defensive talent on this team, Brind’Amour is trying to also make the team a highly skilled offensive unit; something that is working for him. The once defense-minded Hurricanes have now taken their game to a whole new level, with high level scoring happening on the opposite end of the ice. Sebastian Aho is leading the charge with 56 points (18 goals, 38 assists), in just 47 games this season. Carolina fans will be hoping that he can break the 100 point mark this season, something that he’s never accomplished in his eight year NHL career.

With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, the Hurricanes will be looking for players to take this team even further. Perhaps, an elite goaltender or a top six forward, could be in the works, as many rumors circle around the organization.

Being just four points behind the Metropolitan leading New York Rangers, the Hurricanes have a real shot at getting to the number one seed this season. With harder games this month against teams like the Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, and Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina is going to have to make a huge push for that top spot. The man behind the bench, knows the formula to make that happen.

We’re getting contributions from different guys every night. One night the goaltending steals us the game and another night one player gets us up with a goal here or there.
— Rod Brind'Amour / Hurricanes Head Coach

It should be a very exciting end to the season, as the Hurricanes seem to be getting better and better.
