Will Jim Harbaugh bring J.J. McCarthy on the ride to LA?
With the season almost coming to an end, teams have already been making big transactions for head coaches and free agent talks have begun as well. One big head coach purchase was the Los Angeles Chargers hiring former University of Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, and he may go all in on sticking with his roots depending on this offseason.
Harbaugh could bring his national champion quarterback, JJ McCarthy, who led the team this season to a national title but was in a heavy run/play action offense and people say that the best thing McCarthy ever did was hand the ball off to running backs Blake Corum, and Donovan Edwards. Even though that may be true, McCarthy still had a 72.3% completion percentage throwing for 2,991 yards, rushed for 220 yards, had 22 passing touchdowns, and 3 rushing touchdowns in his national championship season.
With the draft approaching upon us, Jim Harbaugh might make some big trades as the star players already there offensively like quarterback, Justin Herbert, and wide receiver Keenan Allen could be sent away to rebuild and Harbaugh can get some 1st round picks to maybe help change the Chargers’ offense by drafting his quarterback, JJ McCarthy.
If this were to happen to the Chargers, it is possible Harbaugh is going to try to have the same system he had at Michigan offensively, and defensively since he brought his Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter who was also with the Ravens under Head Coach John Harbaugh’s wing.
Jim Harbaugh could be risking his job in the first two years with this move if he decides to take a risk and bring McCarthy to the Chargers, but it could be worth it with the staff he already has brought with him.
