Will he do it again?
Mike White and the New York Jets stunned the football world world on Sunday after beating the visiting Cincinnati Bengals. It is important to note that before the loss, the Bengals were sitting atop the AFC. White finished the game with 37 completions which is the most ever by a QB in their first start. He also joins Cam Newton as the only other QB to throw for 400 yards in their debut. White's performance will go down in NFL history as one of the best of all time. His jersey and game ball was sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame for display. After just one game, he will forever be a legend in the Jets community.
White wasn’t the only Jet who played out of their mind on Sunday. Rookie running back Micheal Carter seemingly had his breakout game, after finishing with 172 total yards and a touchdown. He joins Alvin Kamara as the only other player since 2020 to have 75 yards rushing and 90 yards receiving. The Jets took Carter in the 4th round of this year's draft so he is certainly looking like a steal.
The Jets won’t have to wait too long for another opportunity to impress and add to their win column. They will be traveling to Indianapolis for a Thursday night primetime game where they will face the 3-5 Colts. White will get another start as Zach Wilson is still nursing his knee injury. Jet fans should feel optimistic about their chances in this game. The Colts, both offensively and defensively, are weaker than the Bengals and the always unpredictable Carson Wentz could hand the Jets some easy turnovers. The Colts currently rank in the middle of the pack in terms of pass defense so White will have a manageable matchup on his hands. If he can play half as good as he did Sunday, the Jets should be able to win consecutive games for the first time this season.
