Wild finish at Arrowhead

Like two great heavyweight boxers who put it all on the line, going blow for blow, body shot to body shot, Patrick Mahomes versus Josh Allen, the prolific Chiefs offense against the NFL’S number one defense, this game did not disappoint and lived up to all the hype and expectations as the Kansas City Chiefs held on to defeat the Buffalo Bills in overtime 42-36 to advance to the AFC Championship Game.

In the last two minutes of regulation, there were three lead changes and one tie.

First, the Bills scored with a throw from Allen to a wide-open Gabriel Davis on a 4th and 13 to make the lead 27-26 and a converted a two-point conversion to make it 29-26.

With 1:12 left to play in the fourth quarter, Mahomes threw an absolute dart to “Superman” Tyreke Hill for a 64-yard touchdown to reclaim the lead at 33-29 with just under a minute left in regulation.

But the Bills were not to be outdone. Allen and the Bills went right back down the field.

“Down the middle to the endzone, and there it is!” “Touchdown!” Said Jim Nance, a sports analyst for CBS, as the Buffalo Bills took the lead with only 13 seconds left on the clock as fans in Arrowhead stadium looked on with concern, fearing their team’s season was over.

But in the sports world, the adage is, “it’s not over until it’s over.”

With 13 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter and on his own 25-yard line, Mahomes and the Chiefs drove down the field methodically to get his team in field goal range for a chance to take it into overtime.

The Chiefs were able to get into field goal range where kicker Harrison Butker kicked a 49-yard field goal.

“The kick is good! It’s going to overtime!” Said Nance as Arrowhead stadium erupted into cheers.

And just like that, with only 13 seconds left, Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs down the field to give his team a chance to tie it.

The AFC Divisional round went into overtime where the rules are that the first team to score a touchdown wins the game, the first team to kick a field goal and make it or miss it will allow the opposing team to get the ball and score, and if the opposing team scores a touchdown than the team wins and the game is over.

The Chiefs received the ball and began moving down the field inching closer and closer to the endzone.

The number one defense could not stop Mahomes and the Chiefs as they drove down the field at will, and finally, on the eight-yard line, Mahomes dropped back and threw a back-shoulder fade to his other favorite target Travis Kelce.

“For the win, he caught it!” “Chiefs, Ball game!” Said Nance.

“Oh My gosh! one of the great games you’ll ever see!” said former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

“I can’t believe what we just saw.”

The Bills fought hard and went blow for blow with the Chiefs but in the end, Mahomes, Hill, and Kelce proved to be too much to handle.

“I mean it was a heck of a game,” said Mahomes in a post-game interview. I mean it was a great game between two great football teams and at the end of the day guys like Tyree and Travis made the plays that won us the game.” Said Mahomes.

The Chiefs will host the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game for a chance to win a trip back to the Super Bowl.
