Why Skyy Moore Should be a steeler

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a gaping hole in the wide receiver room.

JuJu Smith-Schuster is a Chief. James Washington is a Cowboy. Ray-Ray McCloud is a 49er.

Diontae Johnson is a Pro Bowl receiver, but Chase Claypool is a young, unproven wide receiver who has shown flashes of both highs and lows.

Outside of these two players, Pittsburgh doesn’t have any receivers that you can convincingly feel comfortable with come week one.

The draft is the perfect opportunity to fix this need.

The Steelers had a great free agency, signing two solid linemen in Mason Cole and James Daniels. Former Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky will be at the helm of the offense, and he is, at the very least, a decent bridge QB.

Former Jaguar Myles Jack fills the hole at inside linebacker left by Joe Schobert and cornerback Levi Wallace has the potential to be a great replacement for Joe Haden.

The only free-agent signing who is a wide receiver is a player who has one of the best names in sports, Gunner Olszewski. He was more so signed for his role as a return specialist, a position he was an All-Pro player for the Patriots in 2020.

Based on free agency, Pittsburgh has the opportunity to take a wide receiver whenever it wants to during the draft. It has addressed all the other positions in need in the offseason except for receiver. No one would be mad with a first round WR selection.

Western Michigan’s Skyy Moore could be that draft pick for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh loves its Mid-American Conference players. Johnson played at Toledo, offensive lineman Chukwuma Okorafor went to Western Michigan and Ben Roethlisberger is a Miami (OH) alumni.

Moore was first team All-MAC for the 2021 season, and he also received the honor in 2019. He had 1,292 receiving yards on 95 receptions for 10 touchdowns this past season.

Against Northern Illinois, Moore was outstanding. He had 206 receiving yards and four touchdowns. This shows he has the talent to be a game changer for any team that picks him.

Moore is also a Pittsburgh native; he went to Shady Side Academy in Fox Chapel, a suburb of the city. He played football with Dino Tomlin, Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin’s son, and said that the Tomlin family are “his guys” in an interview.

Moore is most likely a second or third round pick, and a lot of fans would consider him a reach in the first round. But, it would be hard to be mad at Pittsburgh for taking him early. He is an all-around good receiver. He is a good route runner, and he is great at tracking and catching the football. Moore is an athletic player who can make some special moves.

The Steelers need to address the glaring issue at wide receiver, and Skyy Moore seems to be a perfect fit in the city of Pittsburgh.
