Why Did DeAndre Hopkins Choose to Sign With the Titans?

Nashville, Tennessee (PSF) - Earlier today it was finally announced that former All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has signed with the Tennessee Titans on a two year deal worth $26 million, at $13 million per season.

This news sort of shocked the NFL community because a player of Hopkins caliber, who was released a couple months ago, chose to sign with a rebuilding team instead of a contender. This is obviously a very smart move by the new and improved Titans front office, but a questionable one from Hopkins view. The Titans as a franchise also have zero direction, and they have sort of been this way for the past few years. Most fans assumed they would try and move off of All-Pro running back Derrick Henry’s enormous contract, as he gets older and has started to pile up more injuries over the course of the last two seasons. Tennessee also drafted what was viewed as the second best quarterback in the 2022 NFL draft in Malik Willis, and followed that up this past draft by selecting Will Levis in the second round who was projected to be a top quarterback off the board in the first round.

So here is Tennessee now with Ryan Tannehill, the vet with a huge contract that they should have released this past offseason and two project quarterbacks, with one entering their second season with hardly any experience and the other one coming in as a rookie. You can see why most fans didn’t actually think Hopkins was going to sign with the Titans, but instead maybe the Patriots or Chiefs?

I guess Hopkins really wanted the money after all, instead of playing with the greatest coach of all time in Bill Belicheck or the generational quarterback that is Patrick Mahomes. Hey, I guess he can be a good mentor to Tennessee’s last years first round pick, Treylon Burks.
