Who Will Be the New England Patriots Next Offensive Coordinator?

The Patriots have already filled the loss of Bill Belichick with Jerod Mayo as the teams next head coach, but the team still has another Bill that they need to replace.

Offensive Coordinator Bill O’Brien has decided to accept the Offensive Coordinator position at Ohio State. O’Brien’s second term in New England only lasted one year, he was previously the Offensive Coordinator under Nick Sabin at Alabama before his return to New England. His attempt to return quarterback Mac Jones to Pro Bowl form was unsuccessful and it has left the Patriots searching for a new Offensive Coordinator for a 3rd straight offseason.

After the departure of Josh McDaniels following the 2021 season, the Patriots never named an offensive coordinator for the 2022 season, and former Defensive Coordinator Matt Patricia handled plays calling duties. O’Brien took over in 2023 and now there are a couple candidates that could be assuming the role for 2024.

Currently, former Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels is not with a team. He was fired from being the Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach earlier this year, many expect him to land wherever Belichick ends up, but there is always a chance for a reunion with New England.

Jerod Mayo has interviewed a couple of new candidates that could fill the roll. The first is Rams Tight Ends Coach Nick Caley. Caley was previously spent eight seasons with the Patriots as an assistant. Mayo has also interviewed fellow Rams coach Zach Robinson. Robinson is the Rams Quarterbacks Coach and Passing Game Coordinator.

Previously, the Patriots interviewed Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback Coach Dan Pitcher but he has been promoted to Offensive Coordinator for the Bengals after Brian Callahan took the head coaching job with the Bengals.

The Patriots are in desperate need of a spark on offense, and it is going to start with whoever Mayo chooses to be their Offensive Coordinator.
