What’s Next for Gabe Davis?
The Buffalo Bills are in a tough predicament this offseason. Wide receiver Gabe Davis is about to hit the free agency market, and it’s looking like it will be tough for the Bills to re-sign him.
Davis took to Instagram on Feb. 19 to post a video that highlighted his career thus far. The video ended with a “thank you” message and his career statistics. He is all but directly saying that his time in Buffalo is over.
Davis was the 128th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of the University of Central Florida. Since then, he has made a name for himself as the WR2 behind Stefon Diggs for the Bills.
Davis finds himself in a similar situation to Robert Woods, the 2013 second round Bills draft pick. Woods produced well for Buffalo but was never seen as their true WR1.
After not getting deep into contract negotiations to re-sign with the Bills, Woods left for the Los Angeles Rams. During his five-year stint with the Rams, Woods nearly doubled all major statistics he recorded with the Bills.
Now, the Bills could experience the same thing with Davis. He has posted 163 receptions for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns while playing for Buffalo. Davis is estimated to cash out for one of the largest contracts for receivers this offseason. Will his career have the same trajectory as Woods’ did in his post-Bills playing days?
There are plenty of teams that are looking for help at the wide receiver position and have the money to afford Davis. He has recently been connected to the New York Giants who have struggled with WR production for several seasons. Along with the Giants, teams like the New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders could be in the mix to sign him.
If Davis is not franchise-tagged by the Bills by March 5, he will become a free agent.
