What will the Giants do with Daniel Jones?
East Rutherford, New Jersey (PSF) — Although the New York Giants 2022 season came to end last night after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 38-7, the season has been a success.
At the center of the Giants' rise this season was quarterback Daniel Jones. After the team declined Jones’ fifth-year option in the offseason, many speculated that his time with the organization was coming to a close.
However, Jones showed that he could lead a winning offense after throwing for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. The question is now what the Giants will do with Jones going forward. It seems likely they will bring Jones back, but for how much and how long remains to be determined. The current quarterback market would expect Jones to get a contract upwards of $25 million annually. This is more than affordable for Jones, but could place limitations on what the Giants could give to their supporting cast.
Jones has elevated himself from a bottom dweller to a middle-of-the-pack quarterback. This creates a dilemma for the Giants. Although bringing Jones back to New York for 2023 seems inevitable, the right price and length are crucial.
The New York Giants have a lot on their tables this off-season. The decisions they make could alter the trajectory of the franchise, and no decision holds more weight than Daniel Jones’ contract.
