Week 2 Patriots: Finding the Flow
The New England Patriots came back from their Week one 20-7 loss with newfound momentum and rejuvenated team as they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 17-14.
Quarterback Mac Jones outperformed himself by throwing for 252 yards and working with Nelson Agholor and Damien Harris to bring back the win.
Despite only beginning with a 28-yard field goal by Nick Folk in the first quarter, the Patriots broke the tie in the second quarter with a 44-yard touchdown pass to Agholor over the head of Ahkello Witherspoon.
Coming back from the half, the Patriots were forced into a 52-yard field goal, which was missed, but the Steelers responded with a field goal of their own to make the score 10-6.
The following punt by New England was fumbled by Pittsburgh’s Gunner Olszewski and recovered by the Patriots’ Brendan Schooler. To stay ahead, the Patriots utilized the running game headed by Damien Harris for a two-yard touchdown for a score of 17-6.
On the other hand, the Steelers began the fourth quarter with an eight-yard touchdown by Trubisky to Pat Freiermuth which was then followed by a successful two-point attempt pass to Diontae Johnson.
The New England Patriots came from Week one with new life as they held off the Steelers from outscoring and outperforming them. Jones, along with the coaching staff, worked in unison to turn the team into one that could be close to matching the presence of the past 20 years.
In Week one, the Patriots seemed unorganized, but beginning Week two, they fired off all cylinders for a new start and prove that they are still the same team that made it to the playoffs last season.
In order for the team to make it back where they were, Jones is going to have to continue working to be an even better leader to lead the team to victory.
