Von Miller signed to Bills for massive deal
As the free agency continues to heat up, NFL teams are making moves like Davonte Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders and Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns.
An NFL team, the Buffalo Bills, made a move to compete against a tough conference in the AFC. This move is that the Bills have signed former Los Angeles Rams, Denver Broncos, and current Super Bowl champion Von Miller to a six-year deal worth 120 million.
The deal includes $51.5 million guaranteed and $45 million of it is fully guaranteed which ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted. It was the biggest deal in NFL history for a player in his 30s.
The two-time Super Bowl champion signed the deal after recording 33 solo tackles, 9.5 sacks, and one forced fumble during the 2021 season. Miller also made crucial defensive plays by sacking Joe Burrow back-to-back in the second half of the Super Bowl.
Miller was a free agent following the 2021 season after winning the Super Bowl and now has a chance to replicate his production with the Rams to the Bills.
The Bills' defense was exceptional last season with it ranking first by only letting opponents have 285 total yards and producing 42 sacks. This performance by the Bills' defense last season was great but didn't show it in the AFC Divisional Round against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The defense gave up 552 total yards, 30 first downs, and created zero turnovers. They also gave up a touchdown in 13 seconds and a game-winning drive in overtime.
After looking at the defense's performance versus the Chiefs in the playoffs, there are still problems that the Bills should address that is involving the d-line's productivity in pass rushing.
Miller's signing could change that dilemma with his impact on the field despite not being the same player who had double-digit sacks with the Broncos. Miller can also provide experience to the Bills' defensive line, which has younger, inexperienced NFL players like Gregory Rousseau and Jordan Phillips.
Miller could be the vocal leader or encourage other star Bills players to speak up when the team is playing in a high-stakes game during the regular season or postseason. He did this with his former teammate Aaron Donald in challenging him to become a vocal leader which recently retired Andrew Whitworth said in an interview yesterday.
With Miller now officially on the Bills, he talks about joining the team in the Bills' press conference. He mentions his brotherhood for one season with the Rams and Miller's feelings about what he brings to the Bills.
The major matter Miller wants to show the Bills is that he hopes to "lead by example" for a Super Bowl championship in Buffalo, New York.
Conclusion
Overall, the signing of Miller has been a big move that the Bills did this offseason to improve the pass-rushing, as well as the team, would gain championship experience.
Along with the Miller signing, the Bills signed tight end OJ Howard to a one-year deal and release two players (Star Lotulelei and Cole Beasley) due to cap space.
The move has some positives and negatives with Miller being 32, but could still produce when it matters. It has been a newsworthy offseason with the Miller's deal as free agency continues to headline the NFL news.
