Tua Practices Jiu-Jitsu in the Offseason

Miami, Florida (PSF) - Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has spent this offseason prioritizing his health after being diagnosed with two concussions during the 2022 season. Tua has begun training in jiu-jitsu this offseason in an effort to alleviate the impact falling has on his body, as well as learning to avoid landing on the head.

After going back and watching the film, Tua and his jiu-jitsu coach were able to “relive the scenario” and notice ways that the injuries could have been avoided. Proper landing while falling and grappling have been key parts of Tua’s offseason routine. Going into the 2023 season, Tua intends on preventing injuries to the head or any other major impact when going to the ground.

Head coach Mike McDaniel has also implemented jiu-jitsu training into the QB workout drills as a way to get their body used to contact prior to September. The Dolphins had an 8-3 record last season when Tua was the starting quarterback and with two years remaining on his contract we may definitely see major strides in his game, so as long as Mike McDaniel is his coach and he can stay healthy, the Dolphins will certainly be in good hands under the quarterback and head coach duo.
