The Patriots are Jones’ Team
Sunday afternoon, the New England Patriots, led by none other than Mac Jones, took a 22-17 victory over the 5-2 New York Jets.
The team was rejuvenated by Jones’ appearance and managed to stave off Zach Wilson who threw for 355 yards.
Jones’ performance, completed 24 of 35 throws for a total of 194 yards, was a great improvement on last week’s game against the Bears in which he completed 3/6 for only 13 yards and an interception.
Rhamondre Stevenson led the Patriots in both rushing and receiving where he had 16 carries for 71 yards and 7 receptions for 72 yards. Stevenson fired on all cylinders to bring the team to victory.
After the Week 8 loss to the Bears, Jones played with a chip on his shoulder. Fans had booed him off the field and he was replaced by rookie back-up quarterback, Bailey Zappe. With this win, Jones secured his position as a reliable starter and leader of the team.
Despite the Jets taking an early lead of 10-6 in the first half, Mac Jones and the Patriots marched down the field to take the lead of 13-10 with a five-yard touchdown pass to Jakobi Meyers.
On top of Nick Folk going five for five on field goals, Devin McCourty also caught two interceptions and Ja’Whaun Bentley caught one.
The Patriots defense seemed to never tire as they fought against the Jets offense. The Jets were kept to two touchdowns and were unable to score in the third quarter.
All in all, Jones was able to steer the team back in the right direction and illustrated his leadership in the quarterback position despite the negativity of the crowd in his ear.
