The Next Generational Talent?

PSF - Throughout the years, NFL scouts have labeled draft prospects as “generational”. Usually, this level of praise does not translate to the field. Some examples of this are players such as Jadeveon Clowney, Kyle Pitts, and Zach Wilson. Recently, this word has been thrown around again about a certain quarerback in next years draft, Caleb Williams from USC.

Prior to college, WIlliams has always had the spotlight on him. He was a five-star prospect, ranked eighth as the best player nationally, and the second best quarterback in his class. Williams would commit to Oklahoma to team up with superstar Head Coach Lincoln Riley. In the 2021 season, Williams would eventually replace Spencer Rattler as the number one quarterback on the roster in only his freshmen year. After the season ended, Riley would leave the Sooners and join the Trojans as their new head coach in 2022. Williams would soon follow in his head coach’s footsteps and transfer to USC. In his first year at USC, Williams would throw for 42 touchdowns, only five interceptions, and would win the Heisman Trophy. Williams is now going into his junior year, after this season he will be eligible to be drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The hype has been building for the last two years, but it is not stopping now. Recently, a report was released saying that multiple NFL teams view Williams on the “same level” as former Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. We will have to see how Williams does this upcoming season, there seems to be no signs that he will be slowing down anytime soon. Next year’s class will filled with star quarterbacks, but the unanimous number one pick seems to be Williams.
