The AJ Brown & Tyreek Hill Debate

Recent discussions surrounding offensive players in the NFL have been circulating around wide receivers A.J. Brown and Tyreek Hill, two all-pro receivers who look like the current #1 and #2 players in their position this season. For some, however, it has been difficult to determine who exactly are the #1 and #2. Both names have been breaking records this season and are on pace to break Calvin Johnson’s receiving yards record from 2012, where he totaled 1,964 yards. Week 8 was major in this ongoing storyline and has firmly established who the NFL’s current two best wide receivers are.

Tyreek Hill

At time of writing, Tyreek Hill of the Dolphins has not only been productive, but also flashy while putting up over 1,000 receiving yards in his first eight games of the season. While he’s always been known for his crazy speed, this season is like no other. He is practically impossible to consistently guard, having 4 separate showings of least 155 yards receiving and even eclipsed 200 yards in the season-opener against the Chargers. Hill has officially reached new heights this season, becoming the first player in 52 years to reach the 1,000-yard mark in the first eight games of the season. Currently averaging 126.8 yards per game, Hill is on track to break Calvin Johnson’s record. He is practically the soul of this Miami offense as Jaylen Waddle doesn’t even have half the yards of Hill and WR3 Braxton Berrios is not even a third of those yards. Between A.J. Brown and Tyreek Hill, the Miami receiver might have the better chance of breaking the record but let’s not dismiss the second half of this star-studded duo.

A.J. Brown

Following an incredible first year with the Eagles, A.J. Brown has continued to display his dominance at an even higher level. This year, Brown is also on track to break Johnson’s record. There are many incredible elements in his skillset, ranging from his strong stature to his ability to make difficult and contested catches. The most notable ongoing story in Brown’s season is his record-breaking six-game streak of 125+ yard performances. There’s a chance he’ll continue to add to this record against a Cowboys defense that is missing Trevon Diggs. Brown has firmly established himself as a number one option after a quieter first two games of the season. While Tyreek Hill may be able to outrun any defensive back, A.J. Brown is practically a safe read for Jalen Hurts to feed nearly every play. This is impressive considering the offensive talent around the team with WR2 Devonta Smith, TE Dallas Goedert, etc. If I had to personally choose a receiver to throw the ball to though, it would probably be No. 11….
