Takeaways from the Titans 17-10 win over the Broncos
The Tennessee Titans defeated the Denver Broncos 17-10 in their Week 10 matchup.
Here are some of my key takeaways from this game.
Not a whole lot of offense.
If you are a fan of offense, then this game was probably not for you. Both offenses struggled mightily the entire game with only one touchdown being produced by both teams. As a Titan fan, I have to endure this offensive struggle weekly. At this point, I am not surprised anymore, but the same can be said for Broncos fans as well.
The Titans punted on 8 of their 13 drives, while the Broncos punted on 9 of their 13 drives. The Titans only produced 5.1 yards per play, while the Broncos produced just 4.3 yards. Both of these averages would rank in the bottom half of the league so far.
Derrick Henry did not carry the Titans offense this time, as he struggled to get going for the entire game. His streak of five straight 100-yard rushing games came to an end, as he only ran for 53 yards on an abysmal 2.8 yards per carry.
Ryan Tannehill’s return from injury.
Ryan Tannehill returned as the starting quarterback for the Titans after missing the last two games with an ankle injury. Tannehill completed 19 of his 36 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns. The questions about Tannehill’s mobility were answered, as Tannehill looked comfortable scrambling out of the pocket. Credit to the offensive line for holding up as Tannehill was only sacked one time.
The defense stepped up big despite injuries.
The Titans played without key defensive starters Jeffery Simmons, Bud Dupree, Zach Cunningham, Kristian Fulton and Amani Hooker. The injuries continued to pile up during the game as Lonnie Johnson Jr, Kevin Strong, Elijah Molden and David Long Jr all went down with injuries during the course of the game.
Despite all of the injuries, the Titans defense played very well, limiting Russell Wilson and the Broncos offense to only 10 points. The Tennessee defense produced six sacks and continued their streak of six straight games of three or more sacks. After giving up 10 points in the first half, the Titans defense held Denver to zero points in the second half. They also shut down the Broncos on third down, as Denver went 0 for 8 combined on third down in the second half.
On the Broncos last play of the game, Russell Wilson threw a crucial interception to Terrance Mitchell to seal the win for the two tone blue.
