Steelers Week 11 Takeaway
Pittsburgh Steelers drop to 5-4-1 after losing their Sunday night match against the Los Angles Chargers. The Steelers entered last Sunday's match with multiple injuries to their defense. Linebacker T.J. Watt, cornerback Joe Haden, and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick all did not play. The Chargers dominated most of the first half holding the Steelers offense to just 10 points. Steelers rallied back in the second half after backup safety Miles Killebrew blocked a Chargers punt placing the offense on Los Angles 3-yard line. The following Chargers possession quarterback Justin Herbert passed was picked off by cornerback Cameron Sutton after defensive tackle Cam Heyward deflected the pass. With little time left in the game, the Steelers led the Chargers 37-34. Justin Herbert hit wide receiver Mike Williams for a 53-yard touchdown pass sealing their 41-37 victory.
Offense: Overall our offense played a decent game even with a few injuries to the offensive line. The offensive line fell apart late in the 4th when they were needed most. Once again, they had trouble opening gaps for Najee Harris to get into the endzone inside the 10-yard line. Ben Roethlisberger played a good game throwing 3 touchdowns. Diontae Johnson is showing the potential of becoming a top wide receiver in the league-leading the team in receptions.
Defense: It was obvious that our key players were missing Sunday night. Herbert and Ekeler dominated the ground rushing for a combined 140 yards. Rookie safety Tre Norwood made mistakes that Minkah Fitzpatrick would never make. Without T.J. Watt the front seven sacked Herbert only 2 times. I feel like if our original guys were playing the game would have had a different outcome.
