seattle seahawks 2014 vs 2021
After a 7-10 record for the Seahawks this season, many have wondered how can a team that hasn’t been out in a first round in years not even make it this time? That is a question that can be answered over the next few months as they try to rebuild around their QB Russell Wilson despite the ongoing rumors of him leaving. Russell said on the last press conference of the season that “he hopes to stay in Seattle.”(NFL.COM). If that is to be the case, the Seahawks have to get back to the team they were in 2014 when they won the Superbowl and had one of the best defenses in the NFL at the time with the LOB(Legion of Boom).
The LOB were relentless on the field and they were known for their trash talking as well. Consisting of Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Brandon Browner, Walter Thurmond, Earl Thomas and later Byron Maxwell. Combined with the talents of Marshawn Lynch, Doug Baldwin, Ricardo Lockette, Jermaine Kearse and Bobby Wagner the 2014 team brought all the heat. They were 12-4 that year and were still a factor for a couple of years after but the stamina kind of took a turn when they lost the Superbowl in 2015 to the Patriots.
Fast forward to 2021 and there seems to be a fire that was lacking. On the off season, the team needs to work on their defense considering they were 15th in the league compared to 2014 when they were #1. Wouldn’t it be amazing to have some of the LOB come and train with some of the new guys and give some motivation. I know many players do this but it wouldn’t hurt at all. With Kam Chancellor, Doug Baldwin and Marshawn Lynch retired, there could be some interesting training going on before camp starts.
This next season should have the Seahawks looking like before so that they can compete with the teams that have developed in this past year. Teams like he Bengals, Rams and Bills are sure to come back even stronger next year. The Seahawks have to be ready.
