Broncos Release QB Russell Wilson
After going 8-9 and dealing with a front office that was concerned about salary cap for free agency, quarterback Russell Wilson will be released on March 13th, the beginning of the new league year. Wilson threw for 3,070 yards in 297 out of 447 passes and had 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Russell Wilson and the Broncos had such a bad start going 2-5 in the first seven games of the season, and the Broncos front office with Head Coach Sean Payton thought the season was over and basically told Wilson that when season is over they would release him and even after all that Russell still tried to get the team to the playoffs winning four straight at one point but fell to the Lions, and Patriots which made it mathematically impossible to reach the playoffs.
Now with the realization of being released happened here are some teams that Wilson could potentially play for next season.
1. Atlanta Falcons
With the hiring of new head coach Raheem Morris, the Falcons are trying to find a new quarterback to strengthen this young talented offense consisted of running back Bijan Robinson, wide receiver Drake London, and tight end Kyle Pitts. If Russell Wilson were to join the Falcons, he would bring great leadership, accountability, and a veteran presence. When he connects with these key players, they can be on a good track to turning around this franchise.
2. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders are under new management with Head Coach Antonio Pierce, and they need a quarterback with experience and not ride next season with quarterback Aidan O’Connell. Russell Wilson could fit in that Raider offense to give mentorship to O’Connell and help the skilled offense get more opportunities on the field with running back if resigned Josh Jacobs, wide receivers Davante Adams, and Jakobi Meyers. The Raiders run a very balanced offense and Wilson ran similar while with the Seattle Seahawks and can bring this team back to the playoffs and lift this offense up the ranks with Antonio Pierce running the team now.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
With Head Coach Mike Tomlin desperately needing a new reliable quarterback, why not get veteran Russell Wilson. The Steelers have a lot of talent from their running backs to their wide receiver core, and the reason their talent isn’t shown is that they don’t have a good quarterback. Rb’s Jaylen Warren, and Najee Harris, and Wr’s Diontae Johnson, and George Pickens have been overlooked due to not putting up numbers and Wilson can help give them that recognition. Mike Tomlin has struggled running a productive offense ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired back in 2022, but with Russell Wilson being a potential good fit for the Steelers, don’t be surprised if they make the playoffs again and get past the Wild Card Round.
4. Minnesota Vikings
With a devastating 7-10 record this season and having to start 4 different QBs this season, the Minnesota Vikings need to find a veteran quarterback, especially if they don’t resign Kirk Cousins. Russell Wilson will be in a very different pass first offense he hasn’t been around, but very good air threat weapons in wide receivers Justin Jefferson, and Jordan Addison, and tight end T.J. Hockenson. Wilson will have one of the top WR cores in the league and with his veteran leadership, and playmaker abilities can bring the Vikings back to success offensively and deliver HC Kevin O’Connell a good offense he can play call for and win some games.
No matter where Russ ends up, he will be a force to reckon with in whatever team decides to give him the chance to compete and show he isn’t washed just yet as a veteran quarterback.
