REVIEW: Hard Knocks In Season with the Miami Dolphins

Hard Knocks, the acclaimed sports documentary series, was back this season on HBO with all-access coverage of the Miami Dolphins. Starting in Week 9, the Dolphins were followed by the crew for the final eight games of the season and their one playoff game.

The show provides fans a glimpse inside Miami’s practices and games and showcases stories and people who do not normally get noticed.

People were able to watch electric wide receiver Tyreek Hill talk about his marriage in the bye week, see how the players celebrate wins and Christmas, and even learn more about players who do not get as much recognition such as Zach Sieler.

The show not only follows the team in their meetings and practices but also during the games. Each episode would highlight or follow a certain player’s story and would follow their family along in the process. Hill’s mother and wife were just one of the people who were mic’d-up in the stands, and the video of Hill’s wife having food dropped on her went viral.

I particularly loved that the show highlighted the bromance between Sieler and Christian Wilkins. That is the type of friendship I aspire to have.

The show also highlighted head coach Mike McDaniel’s story to his position. I became very inspired by his story of sobriety, and his mentality is one that I believe has greatly impacted this team.

Other important people who work for the Dolphins organization were also highlighted in the show, including Director of Team Security Drew Brooks. Brooks is someone that fans often see, as he is attached to McDaniel’s hip during games, but who he is and his story is one that Hard Knocks highlighted very well.

All in all, I would give Hard Knocks In Season with the Miami Dolphins five stars. This is an entertaining team and I loved how the show was able to convey that. The inside stories and mic’d-up scenes give fans that inside experience that provides the game of football more depth.

I am excited to see what team Hard Knocks will follow next. As a Patriots fan, I would love for the show to collaborate with them, but with all the changes this offseason, I don’t think it would be something owner Robert Kraft would be on board for. It seems like the Bears, Saints and Broncos could be possibilities though!
