Quarterback Controversy in New England?
Bailey Zappe and the New England Patriots scored a much-needed win on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns to get to a two-game win streak.
Zappe threw for 309 yards with 24-34 completions and no interceptions. He currently has two wins under his belt and fans are ecstatic about his performance.
Last year, the controversy was between starting rookie quarterback Mac Jones and veteran Cam Newton. There could be another coming soon.
At the moment, Jones is still out with a high ankle sprain and unable to play for the next few weeks, but what does that mean for his role as quarterback?
There is no quarterback controversy currently in New England, but one could be on the rise if Jones is unable to improve after his return to the field from injury.
In the 2021 season, Jones had a 67.6 percent completion rate with 3,801 yards on his record for his rookie season and is at 66 percent completions with 786 yards this season.
Bailey Zappe has played in three NFL games and is 51-70 in completions. Zappe Fever is spreading throughout Patriots fans as the rookie quarterback is 2-0 in games that he started in compared to Jones’ 1-2 start this season.
Zappe has proven that he is a capable quarterback, taking to the position as if it was made for him and throwing for 596 yards with only a single interception in the past three games.
The longer Jones is out from injury, the more Zappe can get in-game experience and improve his skills, but that also means more time for Zappe Fever to keep spreading.
He is on an upwards trend in his plays and the comparison to Mac Jones play is easy to see. Jones led the Patriots to the playoffs in his rookie season, and it looks like Zappe is on the path to doing the same, but only time will tell if Zappe is ready for the competition.
