Philadelphia Eagles Vs Detroit Lions Preview

In Week 8, the 2-5 Eagles will be looking to rebound against the winless Lions, although at this point a loss wouldn’t be the worst thing. However, the Eagles will still be trying to win this game and have a few matchups they can exploit.
The Lions do not have many weapons on offense aside from TE TJ Hockenson and RB DeAndre Swift and have no deep threats. The Eagles defense should opt to play more tight coverage against the Lions compared to how they have played against their last few opponents where they let them dink and dunk all over the field.

Jared Goff is also not a very mobile QB and the Eagles must get home with their pass rush to disrupt him. The Lions o-line has been bottom 10 this season and the expensive Eagles pass rush needs to get some pressure especially from the DT position, with Javon Hargrave and Fletcher Cox.

The Eagles offense will also need to perform better than they have the past few weeks. The Lions defense is one of the worst in the league, especially against the pass, so Jalen Hurts will need to play better and get the ball out to his playmakers. With Miles Sanders out the Eagles running game will be even worse than it was before but Nick Sirianni must not completely abandon the run otherwise defenses can just pin their ears back and go after Jalen Hurts, who is not the best QB handling pressure.
If the Eagles want any chance to beat the Lions, they will need to play better in all faces compared to what they have done in the last few games. The Eagles offense can’t keep on being nonexistent until the 4th Quarter when the game is already out of reach and the defense has to contest the short passes instead of allowing 10 yard cushions every play that completely neutralizes the Eagles pass rush.
