Pete Carroll Out as Seahawks Head Coach, Makes Change to Seahawks Advisor
After 14 seasons in Seattle, Seahawks owner Jody Allen has fired Pete Carroll.
In his extensive career at Seattle, Carroll boasted a 137-89-1 regular season record, according to Pro Football Reference. His .606 win percentage is the highest win percentage of any Seahawks head coach, also per Pro Football Reference. During the playoffs, Carroll had a record of 10-9, leading the Seahawks to one Super Bowl victory in 2014.
Carroll has had the opportunity to work with former and current stars of the NFL, which include, but are not limited to: quarterback Russell Wilson, cornerback Richard Sherman, linebacker Bobby Wagner, wide receiver DK Metcalf and safeties Earl Thomas, and Kam Chancellor.
One of Carroll’s most defining career accomplishments, along with his Super Bowl victory, includes forming the 2013 Seattle Seahawks into one of the greatest defensive units of all time, seeing as the team allows the fewest total points, total yards, and most takeaways in that single season, according to Pro Football Reference.
Though the Seahawks look to another coach to lead the team for the 2024-2025 season, the team won’t completely cut their relationship with the coach. According to Seahawks owner Jody Allen, "After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an advisor.”
While his position comes after a mediocre season for the Seahawks (scraping together a record of 9-8), his coaching tenure will inevitably be cherished within the Seahawks fanbase for years to come.
