One Man’s Trash Is Another Man’s Gold
After letting running back Miles Sanders walk in free agency to the Carolina Panthers the Philadelphia Eagles pivoted and traded for Lions young running back D’Andre Swift. Even though Miles Sanders had a career year for the Eagles many people in the media were certain that they were not going to bring him back due to the fact that they had lots of other players coming up on contract extensions. Philadelphia betted on themselves and their great offensive line and traded for a younger back that has showed lots of flashes with the lions. Although Swift showed flashes in Detroit the production wasn’t there. Swift coming up on the last year of his rookie contract was a cost effective deal for the Eagles rather than paying Miles Sanders. So far to start off the season general manager Howie Roseman has continued to show why he has been one of the best GMs in the entire NFL as Swift is second in the NFL in rushing yards only behind Christian McCaffrey. With the combination of Swifts talent and arguably the best offensive live this pairing was a match made in heaven for Philadelphia. Starting off the year the passing game for the Eagles hasn’t gotten of to the hot start mostly due to the fact that there is a new offensive coordinator in town calling plays for the offense. The Eagles have had to rely on the run game and in recent weeks it has opened things up for Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, and Devonta Smith in the passing game. Roseman will have another decision coming up this offseason as Swift is up for a contract will be interesting to see if they reach an agreement or will they pivot like they did last year if the number gets too high.
