Minnesota Vikings vs Baltimore Ravens Recap
Another disappointing loss for the Minnesota Vikings has left fans frustrated with the play-calling of the Minnesota coaching staff. An encouraging start to the game that even led all the way to halftime but once again the Vikings find a way to lose a game in which they had every opportunity to put out of reach and win.
When Tyler Conklin has the most receptions in the game with five, that already tells a story that the passing game wasn’t there. Adding in that Kirk Cousins only threw for 187 yards and Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen combined for five catches doesn’t show the urgency or collective importance of those players and how little of an impact they had on the game.
Dalvin Cook on the other hand had a brilliant game. He rushed for 117 yards on only 17 carries, that plus the explosive kick return from Kene Nwangwu were impressive and almost willed the Vikings to the victory.
The concerning topic once again is how conservative the Vikings play-calling becomes once halftime comes around. The Vikings started the second half leading 17-10 and then Nwangwu returned the ensuing kickoff which put the Vikings up by two touchdowns, 24-10. The Baltimore Ravens then scored 21 straight points to take the lead. After the first Baltimore touchdown the tide of the game had completely shifted to the Ravens’ favor and the road that many Vikings fans have seen throughout this repetitive season formed and the Vikings lost another close game in overtime.
When Lamar Jackson throws two interceptions and the Vikings offense isn’t able to convert those to any points just shows how inconsistent and hesitate this coaching staff is. The Minnesota defense did everything they could but were unable to stop the Baltimore offense in the fourth quarter and overtime since they were on the field for the majority of the second half and were worn down by the rushing attack of the Ravens. It doesn’t help when the offense is struggling to run more than three plays every time they have the ball.
The Vikings will hope to bounce back in Week 10 as they head to Los Angeles to face the Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
