Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings took down the Washington Commanders 20-17 in his return back to Washington behind a strong 4th quarter from all phases of the Vikings.

Down 17-7 in the fourth quarter, the game looked like it would be another Vikings collapse against a strong defensive line unit. But the red hot Vikings would not be denied, a field goal from Greg Joseph would put the Vikings down by 7 after the offense put together a drive but couldn’t put the ball in the endzone. Minutes later, Harrison Smith would get his 3rd interception in as many games and would return the ball all the way to inside the Commanders 15 yard line. The offense wouldn’t let this opportunity go to waste, as Kirk Cousins would throw a beautiful ball on a wheel route to Dalvin Cook who would make the one handed catch to tie the game up. The defense held strong to force a punt, giving the ball back to the offense who would run the clock all the way down to 15 seconds where Greg Joseph would hit the 28 yard field goal to win the game.

The Vikings offensive front struggled to stop the physical defensive front of the Commanders, as Kirk Cousins seemed to be taking hit after hit throughout the game. Kirk stayed committed to waiting in the pocket for plays to develop, allowing for Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson to have big plays whenever the pocket did hold up. The run game never got going the way the Vikings would have liked, which added to the difficulty of driving down the field. The Vikings once again found a way to pull through and leave with a win, which seems to be the story for this 7-1 team.

The Vikings will head to Buffalo as they look to prove they are a real Superbowl threat against Josh Allen and the Bills while the Commanders will look to be the first team to knock off the Eagles in Philadelphia and stay in the hunt for the playoffs.
