Lions Wide Receiver Jameson Williams Reinstated From Suspension
DETROIT (PSF) - The NFL came out with a new policy for players who bet on non-football games in the workplace or while working. This immediately effected Lions second-year wide receiver Jameson Williams who was suspended in the offseason for six games for betting on a non-football game in the workplace.
Williams was reinstated on Monday and is now eligible to play his first game of the season this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
βI expected it to be longer, but thank God weβre here βtil this day,β Williams said to reporters on Monday when asked about his thoughts on the suspension being lifted early.
The addition of Williams back to the starting lineup coupled with the production of wide receivers Josh Reynolds and Amon-Ra St. Brown and rookie tight end Sam LaPorta makes this Lions offense even more daunting for opposing defenses.
The Lions traded up last year to take Williams in the first-round with the 12th overall pick. Since being drafted, Williams hasnβt had a full season under his belt as he was still rehabbing a torn ACL he received in the National Championship Game earlier that year.
Williams appeared in six games last year, only catching one pass for 41 yards that resulted in a touchdown and one carry on the ground that went for 40 yards.
Lions fans are excited to finally get Williams back and see him in a more focused role than last year. Williams adds a much-needed deep threat element to the Lions receiving core that other receivers like Kalif Raymond and Marvin Jones Jr. could not replace.
Williams ran a 4.4 40-yard time only 13 weeks after his ACL surgery, and that speed adds another distraction to defenses who already have to watch out for players like St. Brown, LaPorta and Jahmyr Gibbs.
