3 Keys for the Bears to Beat the Broncos

After a disastrous start to the season, the Bears need a victory. Heading into week four against the Broncos, they have a great opportunity to capture that victory. The Broncos are coming off a 70-20 beating from the Miami Dolphins last week. A beating like that shows the Broncos have deficiencies, too. That is a good sign for a Bears team and fanbase that needs a victory. For the Bears to beat the Broncos, they must take advantage of those deficiencies by following these three keys.

  1. Run the Ball

Running the ball was a key part of the Bears game last season, yet they have hardly run it at all this season. That needs to change this week against the Broncos, who just allowed 350 rushing yards against the Dolphins. There is no reason the Bears can’t be successful on the ground against the Broncos. The Bears running back room, consisting of Khalil Herbert, D’onta Foreman and Roscon Johnson, is certainly more talented than the Dolphins running back room. Even with Foreman being a healthy scratch the past two games, the Bears running backs have averaged over four yards a carry. So, it would be smart to lean on this run game after the Broncos just showed they can not stop the run.

This could also be a game Justin Fields takes over with his legs. Luke Getsy just needs to let Fields run the ball. If Fields has a big day on the ground against the Broncos, it could help spark the offense as a whole going forward.

2. pressure Russell Wilson

Yet again, The Bears’ defense can not pressure or sack opposing quarterbacks this season. This is a disappointment after improvements were made in the offseason, such as adding Yannick Ngakoue and DeMarcus Walker. Even though these players have yet to make an impact in games they should be able to this week. Since the Broncos’ offensive line has allowed ten sacks so far this season. Seven of the sacks the Broncos’ offensive line gave up came against the Washington Commanders, so it is fair to say they have a weak line. Maybe not, but that does not mean Yannick Ngkoue can’t create pressure on Russell Wilson. Ngkoue pressure needs to collapse the pocket so Wilson can’t scramble out. That would massively help the Bears score a victory against the Broncos.

3. Start the game strong

Yes, this key is as basic as it gets. Yet the Bears have not been able to start many games strong this season. In order for the Bears to start the game strong, they will need to have a crisp offensive drive capped by a touchdown. That would hopefully put offensive momentum on the Bears’ side. A good start from the defense would be forcing a punt, preferably a three-and-out. This will be a challenge with how the Bears’ defense has played, but it is not impossible with how the Broncos have played this season.
