Justin Jefferson Extension Talks in Minnesota

Justin Jefferson is looking to break the bank with a new contract extension and the only question we’re awaiting is if Minnesota will do it. Jefferson has proven himself to be a top wide receiver in the NFL, but the Vikings remain hesitant to go all in on him. Justin has outwardly spoken about his love for Minnesota, and he wants to get a deal done that pays him what he feels he deserves.

Justin Jefferson’s stats back him up with over 1,000 receiving yards each season since he entered the league. Totaling to 30 touchdowns throughout his career there is no doubt he is dangerous on the field. He has had Kirk Cousins as his quarterback since entering the league, and they have been explosive each season. Both Jefferson and Kirk found themselves injured in the 2023 Season. Kirk tore his Achilles which ended his season and Jefferson missed around half of the season due to a hamstring injury. Justin is quick off the line and can make plays after the catch.

Jefferson signed a four-year 13 million dollar deal along with a 7 million dollar signing bonus. He will become a free agent in 2025 but is looking to extend his contract and earn more. When Jefferson spoke about extending his contract, he expressed appreciation for Minnesota getting him this far, and he loves playing for the Vikings. He is hoping the organization will extend him and increase his pay.

The Vikings are in a tough spot as they ended their 2023 Season in mediocre fashion. They are unsure about keeping Kirk Cousins, and they will possibly lose a couple of key pieces on defense. With all that being said, extending Justin Jefferson without a plan at quarterback is not a good idea. However, if the Vikings keep Kirk Cousins, there should be no issue giving Justin Jefferson what he deserves. Depending on if the Vikings move off of Kirk and who they bring in next, will give Minnesota fans an idea of if they are going to compete or rebuild next year. Justin Jefferson deserves to be paid and he also deserves a solid quarterback. Minnesota has some questions to answer regarding their quarterback situation, and that will play a pivotal role in where Jefferson ends up.
