Joe Flacco set to start Sunday for Cleveland

The Browns will be turning to their fourth different Quarterback of the season this Sunday, as rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson is still in concussion protocol as of Friday. Cleveland picked up veteran QB Joe Flacco this past week, and it appears Flacco is in line to make the start this Sunday in Los Angeles against the Rams. The 38 year old has a record of 2-0 against the Rams in his career and he joins a Browns team with an elite defense that allows the least amount of passing yards per game in the NFL.

The Browns have started Deshaun Watson, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, PJ Walker and now potentially Joe Flacco. Watson down for the rest of the season following surgery, Thompson-Robinson in concussion protocol, so the options they have to work with are PJ Walker and Joe Flacco. Walker started three games earlier this season, and compiled 618 passing yards along with 5 interceptions and a fumble lost.

While turning to Flacco, the Browns game plan will remain the same really. Offensively they will look to try and move the ball more efficiently than they have been able to, but if nothing else the hope is that the veteran signal caller will be less likely to turn the ball over. Cleveland’s defense is elite and gives them a chance to win in just about every game they play. If the Browns are able to limit turnovers this Sunday in Los Angeles, there’s a solid chance that the Browns find themselves with a chance to win the ball game.

With franchise QB Deshaun Watson done for the year, the 7-4 Browns will be dealing with this quarterback conundrum for the remainder of the season and into the post season if they are able to string together a few more wins down the stretch to secure that playoff position. If Flacco plays well, I think there is a chance they could stick with him. If he proves to be a bit rusty, Cleveland may go back to Thompson-Robinson next week after he clears concussion protocol or even PJ Walker. Surely, this QB situation in Cleveland will be one to watch for the remainder of the season.
