Patriots’ Defense Disappoints in Win Over Texans

Bill Belichick is typically one of the best coaches at scheming and confusing rookie Quarterbacks. This week against the Texans, Belichick failed to throw anything challenging towards Davis Mills, who impressed despite his team ultimately losing to the Patriots. Even though he has struggled in his first few weeks in the NFL, Davis Mills showed his talent level and continuously shredded the Patriots’ defense throughout the entirety of the Texans vs. Patriots matchup.

Rookie Quarterback Davis Mills had a standout game against the New England Patriots in Week 5.

Mills threw for 312 yards with 3 passing touchdowns and a near perfect passer rating. Davis Mills looked more like Tom Brady against the Patriots this week than Brady did last week against the same team. Mills shredded the Patriots defense drive after drive and the team stopped him a few times at the end of the game. The loss of Cornerback Jalen Mills didn’t help and aside from J.C. Jackson, their corners did not have a good game. Special teams were also a plus as Houston missed a couple field goals and the Patriots forced a blocked punt after some weird shifts by the Texans special teams.

The offensive line was in a state of flux entering the game due to 4/5 starters being placed on the COVID-19 list or battling injury. Luckily the Texans don’t have a strong defense or pass rush and Mac Jones figured out how to survive and win the game. If the team has any shot at competing, which isn’t out of the realm of possibility, their turnovers need to decline as soon as possible. Damien Harris’ goal line fumble was a crucial play that can’t happen, especially when the team was already down. It’s a testament to the team’s ability to grind that they squeaked out a win, even though it wasn’t pretty.

The Patriots are playing the Cowboys next Sunday at 4:25 PM ET on Fox. It should be a high scoring game, with the Cowboys boasting an improved overall team and rising star Cornerback Trevon Diggs. Mac Jones vs. Dak Prescott will be the headline for the game and hopefully both Quarterbacks are at their best when they play each other.
