Jets Show Reason for Hope

The New York Jets (1-3) played against the defending champs, the Kansas City Chiefs (3-1) and it was bad fast. The Chiefs stormed out to an early 17-0 lead that had Jets fans ready to riot and concede that the season was over and head to bed early and get ready for the work week. In the second quarter, a switch flipped, and Jets quarterback Zach Wilson looked like an NFL QB for the first time in a long time. Zach made great throw after great throw and led the Jets to tie the game after three quarters, 20-20. The key to this was the Jets’ defense after the first quarter buckled down and made Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes struggle, forcing two interceptions and holding the reigning MVP to 203 passing yards for the game. Linebacker Bryce Huff came in and made an immediate impact on every snap he had, pressuring the MVP and even forcing a face-mask in the red zone, which led to a safety.

Zach Wilson

Wilson finished the game with 245 passing yards and two passing touchdowns while letting the ball rip. Mahomes after the game said “Zach played his butt off” The biggest difference for the Jets offense was Nathaniel Hackett opening up the playbook and finally allowing Zach Wilson to just play football. For most of the Cowboys and Patriots games, the Jets would run on first and second down, leading to Zach having to make plays constantly on 3rd and long, but this week, the offense came out passing and utilizing play action to their advantage while getting Zach Wilson moving in the pocket leading to success in the game.

Now I’m not saying the Jets will win a Super Bowl with Wilson as their quarterback, but if he can play like he did Sunday, the boos will calm down, and the team will be in a way better place because with the Jets’ defense, anything is possible and nothing says the Jets can’t get out of this hole, especially with a bunch of winnable games coming up the Jets can be right back in the mix. The Jets travel to Denver to take on the struggling Broncos (1-3) in a game that could do wonders for Zach and the Jets with the Broncos defense struggling to start the season.
