In the Week 1 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, the Tennessee Titans played a nightmare of a game and has started to make Titans fans raise questions about their star running back, Derrick Henry. The two-time rushing leader had seventeen touches for just 62 yards and an additional two receptions for 56 yards in a 16-15 loss in New Orleans. It didn’t help that Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill had three interceptions in the loss. The lack of a passing attack was a huge hit to the Tennessee offense. as the rushing attack could not get going and could not find the endzone once all day. Titans kicker Nick Folk scored all 15 points score as he made five field goals.

Field Time

However, one of the bigger stories that emerged out of the Titans backfield was rookie running back Tyjae Spears snap count which was 54.2 percent compared to Derrick Henry’s snap count which was 47.3 percent. Despite the increase in playing time, the production level was differential as Spears only rushed three times on 27 yards and had one reception for 4 yards. It was troubling for the Titans to make any meaningful drives down the field. Although it had just been one week into the new season, having someone like Derrick Henry who is third all-time in Tennessee rushing history not be one of the main focus points especially with the passing game struggling to get going during the game.

The game's longest play came from Derrick Henry, who broke free for a 46-yard screen pass.

WEEK 2

In Week 2, the Tennessee Titans are gearing up to host the Los Angeles Chargers in their home opener. In the upcoming clash with the LA, The Titans could utilize Derrick Henry more as in last season’s week 16 matchup vs. the Chargers, Henry averaged 5 yards per carry (YPC) on the ground. If Derrick Henry can get going on the ground his contributions could be the spark that the Titans offense needs to secure their first win of the season.
