Big Weekend For New York
The New York Giants and the New York Jets proved to be power teams this past Sunday, both securing wins and playing impressive games.
The Giants defeated the Panthers in their home opener 19-16. By the end of week two, the Giants have a start of 2-0 for the first time since 2016.
Starting off strong straight from the kick off, Darnay Holmes forced a fumble. It was recovered by Adoree’ Jackson, setting the tone for the game early on.
This was a big game not only for the team but also for rookie Daniel Bellinger who scored his first career touchdown in the NFL. In the third quarter, when the Giants were down 13-6, Bellinger’s touchdown allowed the team to tie the Panthers 13-13.
Daniel Jones also played an integral part in the Giants win. Late in the fourth quarter with a minute and fifty seconds left, Jones had an eleven yard run. This allowed the Giants to secure a first down, letting them keep possession of the ball until the clock ran out.
The Jets also won, defeating the Cleveland Browns 31-30. This marked the most unexpected win in current NFL history.
Two touchdowns recorded late in the fourth quarter not only allowed the Jets to secure the win, but also marked the team’s contribution to NFL history.
Within the last two minutes of the game, the Jets bounced back with two major touchdowns. Corey Davis was the first to get a touchdown late in the fourth, followed almost immediately by a Garrett Wilson touchdown within the last twenty two seconds of the game.
With this performance, the Jets became the first team in twenty one years to come back from a 13 point gap in the last two minutes and win the game.
With both the Giants and the Jets playing impressive and historical games this weekend, New York had a lot to celebrate.
