Is the Bryce Young experiment over?
It seems like the Carolina Panthers have gone in a new direction, benching Bryce Young today for veteran Andy Dalton. Since Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers haven’t been able to correctly address their Quarterback situation. They’ve had a few Quarterbacks in the past couple years that found success once they left the team. Sam Darnold, who’s now playing great with the Vikings, and Baker Mayfield who’s led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the playoffs last year and looks to again this year.
Young has a 2-16 record as a starting Quarterback in the NFL. The former Heisman Trophy winner has 11 Touchdowns compared to 13 interceptions and only 3122 yards passing in his career. In fact, in his last 14 quarters played, Young has only 389 passing yards, 0 Touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. It seems like he’s never found his groove and the Panthers don’t seem to want to wait much longer. The Panthers gave up 2023 pick 10 (Darnell Wright), 2023 pick 56 (Tyrique Stevenson), 2024 pick 1 (Caleb Williams), 2024 pick 122 (Tory Taylor), a 2025 2nd round pick, and wide receiver D.J. Moore. Maybe being the backup right now will make this a learning experience, but for all they traded to get him the Panthers front office expects more from the second year Quarterback.
