Is a Comeback in Sight for the Patriots?

After two heart-wrenching losses to the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens, the New England Patriots manage to shut out the Detroit Lions for a 29-0 win. 

Bailey Zappe, the Patriots rookie that took over after Brian Hoyer got a concussion, made his first NFL start against the Lions. He threw for 188 yards and completed 17 out of 21 passes.  

Not only did Zappe seem comfortable in the position, but he also worked along with Rhamondre Stevenson and Jakobi Meyers to lead the team to victory.  

Meyers, with a surprising return, made his comeback with seven out of eight receptions and 111 yards. Stevenson, on top of having 25 rushes for 161 yards, managed to run for 14 yards with two targets from Zappe. 

Along with the offensive power, the Patriots special team scored 17 points from field goals as Nick Folk went five for five. 

On the other hand, the Lions, led by Goff, were unable to score a single point. Goff went 19 for 35 on throws for 229 yards. Despite being able to out throw Zappe, Goff was unable to throw anything but a single interception.  

Matthew Judon continued his streak by adding two more sacks to his name and Jack Jones coming in with a clutch first quarter interception. Kyle Dugger also recovered a fumble by Jared Goff for a defensive touchdown to further the Patriots lead.  

The Patriot's defense was able to completely cover the Lion’s offense by severely decreasing their efficiency and causing a zero for six on fourth downs and only four for 12 on third down conversions.  

The Patriots are back in control of the wheel for the team and Zappe seems to be the push they needed. Mac Jones and Hoyer will be back but until then, Zappe should be able to continue leading the team in the right direction.
