Dolphins Sign Odell Beckham Jr.
Miami, FL (PSF) — The Dolphins are adding another playmaker to their offense.
The Miami Dolphins signed Odell Beckham Jr., (OBJ) to a one-year deal on Friday, that can reach up to $8.25 million.
Beckham, now 31, was the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, was the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year, and is a 2-time Second-Team All-Pro & 3-time Pro-Bowler. After a dominant stretch from 2014-2019 (not including 2017 - injured), Beckham has experienced team disconnects and injury issues since the start of the 2020s. He reappeared in the spotlight in 2021, playing a key role in the Rams’ offense during their Super Bowl Run and catching a touchdown in the Super Bowl before unfortunately tearing his ACL later in the game.
He suited up for the Baltimore Ravens in his Age-31 season, catching 35 balls for 565 yards and 3 touchdowns, as he dealt with injuries and had a reduced role throughout the year. However, the 16.1 yards per reception he posted in 2023 was the highest of his career, and it is evident that he can still make big plays for an offense, even with reduced durability and athleticism.
Overall, in the 110 games Beckham has suited up for, he has caught 566 passes for 7,932 yards and 59 touchdowns.
Beckham will likely slide into the Dolphins offense as he third receiver behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Both Hill and Waddle have seen usage in the slot throughout their careers, while Beckham lined up in the slot for 12.6% of his snaps. Mike McDaniel will have some increased flexibility with how he deploys his top three wide receivers in terms of offensive looks.
Tua Tagovailoa will now have another experienced pass-catcher to target in Beckham, whose still-present versatility means that he will help both in short-yardage and for big plays downfield.
