Hush the rumors: Jones might play

In the shadow of Zappe Fever, new information has come to light: Mac Jones might play on Monday against the Chicago Bears.

According to Doug Kyed, writer for Pro Football Focus, Jones is at about 90 percent in health from his injury. Kyed tweeted, “It’s up to the team whether or not he plays Monday against the Bears.”

With Zappe playing comfortably in the pocket and completing 73 percent of his throws, the Patriots have a decision to make.

Jordy McElroy, a journalist with MSN, wrote in his article, “Patriots quarterback Jones gets injury update ahead of Bears game,” that it would make sense why Jones would want to get on the field sooner rather than later. “He’d much rather silence the Zappe noise before it gets even louder,” McElroy wrote.

Khari Thompson, another MSN writer, wrote that when asked about if Jones will play, Belichick responded that he has “total trust in Mac and [their] conversations over the years.”

Belichick, however, avoided all direct questions about who will start in Monday’s game against the Bears.

“As you know, Mac’s been inactive the last two weeks...Hypotheticals and all that, I’m going to stay away from those. We’re going to see exactly what we’re dealing with here and go forward,” said Belichick.

There is no doubt that Jones wants to play. The question is whether Belichick will decide to let Zappe-mania continue to spread or force it to come to an end.

Zappe’s play under center may very well act as fuel for Jones to work harder and get even better, but Monday will show if his work has paid off.
